President's report

Welcome to all existing Club Members, potential Members, and Visitors. Karting is arguably the

world’s most affordable class of motor racing, catering for classes ranging from Drivers of 7 years

of age (midgets) up to any age, so it’s little wonder that a large proportion of Members and

Drivers are part of a Family effort.

Our 2010 year commences with “Come and Try” weekends on the 13 and

14 February plus 27 and 28 February and the 6 and 7 March.

We will have 4 Karts catering for 3 different Classes for interested members of the public to

“Come and Try” this adrenalin charged action packed form of motor racing. These are not Hire

Go Karts, they are full race machines. “Come and Try” days are not race days, rather a chance

to drive around a race track in a race kart, without competition, to see if you would like to take

up the sport. If you are considering “having a go” call Arthur Mortimer on 6882 2381 or 0418

281 133. There is a small fee of $20 per person. This is a one off offer for 2010, so get your

booking in early. I guarantee you’ll understand why karting is so popular.

Our first Club Race Meeting is on the 20th and 21st February. Incorporated in this Meeting is the

First Round of the 2010 Southern Zone Inter-Club Challenge. NSW is divided into Zones.

Dubbo is located at the top edge of the “Southern Zone” which extends down to Wagga Wagga,

Canberra & Griffith with other Clubs in between. Throughout the year the Clubs throughout the

Zone host Drivers from the other Southern Zone Clubs. Points are allocated and accrue until the

final where overall Zone Winners are determined. This covers Kids’ Classes as well as Seniors and

provides the chance to race on different circuits taking one outside their comfort zone. Drivers

who are Members of the Dubbo Kart Club will also be racing for Club Championship Points, which

accrue with all Club Meetings attended to determine the Junior and Senior Club Champions at the

end of 2010.

Membership to Dubbo Kart Club is open to “Competitors” or “Social”. Fees are for the 12

month period commencing January. Please contact us by clicking on the “Contact Us” button on

the Home page, and one of the Executive Committee Members listed on the “About” button will

get back to you; or, come out to the track on a Race Day (dates located at “Championships”

button) and introduce yourself to any of members. Lincoln County Raceway is situated on the

northern side of Dubbo on the highway towards Gilgandra, about 1 kilometre north of

Brocklehurst.

Member Karters are able to practice at Lincoln County Raceway by organising entry with the

live-on-site caretaker or alternatively by obtaining a gate key from the Secretary. Visitors are

welcome to practice on payment of a Fee of $30 per Kart per day. The onsite Canteen is open

on Race Days, providing food and drinks at bargain prices. Just try some of Denise’s homemade

pumpkin soup in winter, it’s the best.

As with all sports, rules are constantly changing. Recently batteries, starter motors and clutches

for some Classes revolutionised the starting process and aided spin out recovery. An exciting new

change this year, nation wide, is the implementation of timing transponders to all karts. By July

2010, all karts are to be equipped with these lap-timing devices. This is compulsory. They can be

purchased through the Club or from the State Office. Track mounted receivers record lap times

making for efficient Race Day administration.

So with the expectations of a full and busy year ahead, all Members are welcome back for a

successful and fun year of motor sport, and all prospective members are welcome to the club for

an action packed year of karting.

Regards

Rodney Binks
